Retinal detachment

Retinal detachment is when the light sensitive layer at the back of the eye (retina) peels off the underlying structures. As it occurs it can cause flashes of light or floaters to appear in the vision, in some cases it appears as though a curtain is closing across the vision. If it affects the macula (the central focussing part of the eye) it can cause permanent poor vision.
